Dan Burden: Green Speaker!

On June 7th WECEC will continue their Green Speaker Series and host Dan Burden, Co-Founder and Director of Innovation and Inspiration at the Walkable and Livable Communities Institute. Dan will discuss how creating more walkable streets can contribute to healthier, more vibrant communities with thriving economies. Findings from this workshop and walking audit can be applied throughout the City of Windsor.

How can Windsor better contribute to creating walkable and livable communities?

The event will take place at the Walkerville Brewery (525 Argyle Road).

11:00 a.m. - Welcome and introductions; overview of policy work to date to support active communities/complete streets
11:15 a.m. - Educational Presentation: Street and Community Design for Active, Healthy Living at All Ages; Best Practices: Design Treatments, Tools and Capacity-Building
12:30 p.m. - Lunch Break (Lunch will be provided)
1:30 p.m. - Walking Audit of Wyandotte and Walkerville BIA districts
2:30 p.m. - Visioning and Next Steps
3:30 p.m. - Closing Thoughts and Q&A
4:00 p.m. - Conclude

We are excited to announce the return of the Pat on the Back Awards!

Four $500 awards will be given out to small, local organizations that foster sustainability in our community. Examples of projects we are looking for may include school greening, environmental education or advocacy, community gardens, re-use, recycling or composting, native plant gardens, community cleanups, environmental art etc.

The deadline to apply is Tuesday May 21st 2013. The awards will be presented on Wednesday May 29th from 7-9pm at the Ojibway Nature Centre.

WECEC sponsors Dr. David Suzuki visit

WECEC contributed to host Dr. David Suzuki speak to 7,000 grade school kids at the WFCU this morning. Representatives from WECEC and our Energy Conservation Campaign partners had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Suzuki and highlighting our campaign to him.

WECEC will have a booth at this year's Earth Day celebration! Taking place on Sunday April 28th from 10am until 3pm at Malden Park.

Learn about our energy conservation campaign and pick up some WECEC swag.

Other activities include a seed exchange, vegetable seedling planting station, over 40 environmental exhibits, bike rental, wildflower planting, canning and container gardening demonstrations as well as an interactive food station.

Listen in this Sunday, April 7th at 10am for WECEC as well as our Energry Consrvation Campaign Partners St. Clair College and Essex Power on Experts on Call.

We will be discussing incentive programs available and school courses specialising in energy conservation!

This weekend, WECEC will have a booth set up at the Home Show at 635 Sprucewood Avenue to discuss environmental issues. We will also be promoting out upcoming Energy Conservation campaign, launching this month!
