Renewable Energy Campaign Experts on Call

WECEC will be hosting an Experts on Call session on AM 800 at 11am on Saturday, June 23rd as part of our renewable energy education campaign. Our campaign partners: the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation, OYA Solar, Green Sun Rising and Great Lakes Energy will be available to answer any questions you might have about the solar industry.

City of Windsor Environmental Attitude Survey

The City of Windsor has posted some results of their Environmental Attitude Survey, conducted in the fall of 2011 by Ispos Reid Consulting. Residents of Windsor were surveyed to determine their thoughts on environmental issues in Windsor.

Survey results help City Council and staff prioritise environmental initiatives and programs. For example, the top three environmental concers of Windsor residents were air pollution/quality, pollution (unspecified), and water pollution/quality.

WECEC has launched a Renewable Energy Campaign

The goal of this campaign is to highlight the benefits of renewable energy technologies to our region. The first technologies highlighted are Solar PV and Solar Thermal. Please see the attached fact sheet along with a copy of our advertisement which wil be seen in County newspapers and the Windsor Star Online. Keep an eye out for interesting editorial comment to follow!

We will be having a press conference on Friday, June 22nd at 9:30am to launch the campaign. The press conference will be located at the Lakeshore Film Studio, 20 North Rear Road, Lakeshore.

Apply for the Second Annual Pat on the Back Awards!

We are pleased to announce the continuation of this program to help out small organizations dedicated to sustainability in our region. If you have an environmental project and would like to apply for one of four $500 awards, please download the application form above and submit before Monday, June 18th 2012.

The top applicants will present their projects at the award ceremony to be held on Wednesday, July 4th at the Ojibway Nature Centre from 7-9pm. All members of the public are welcome to attend.

Environment Commissioner to give free public talk

Please join the Windsor Essex County Environment Committee in welcoming Gord Miller to Windsor. The Environment Commissioner of Ontario will be giving a FREE public talk entitled "Climate Change and Biodiversity Challenges for Southwestern Ontario" on Saturday, May 12th at the Dr. David Suzuki Public School (6320 Raymond). This is part of the Windsor Essex County Environment Committee's Green Speaker Series.

9:00am - Tour of the Dr. David Suzuki School (LEED Platinum building) **Registration for the tour is required. Please call 519-253-7111 ext. 290 to register**
10:00am - Light breakfast buffet (free of charge)
10:30am - Gord Miller talk with discussion period to follow (no registration required).

Live Clean Go Green Eco Conference

On Saturday May 5, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Dr. David Suzuki School will be hosting the “LIVE CLEAN, GO GREEN” Eco Conference.

This conference is aimed at increasing your awareness of the impact that various products have on your body and the environment and where to find safer, healthier alternatives.

This event will include two information presentations, eco-friendly exhibitors and displays, door prizes and lunch.

The cost of registration is $5.00 (cash only please) and lunch options will be available.

Earth Day has MOVED!

Please join us at our new location - the Malden Park Visitor Centre (4200 Malden Road) - for this years Earth Day event! This will be on Sunday, April 22nd from 10am until 3pm rain or shine.

The theme this year is local food and participants will be able to watch cooking and canning demonstrations, plant a herb garden, make salad dressing and pick up free local food maps of Windsor Essex County. There will also be wildflower planting and over 30 environmental exhibitors to check out.

Does your environmental organization want to participate in Earth Day 2012? We would love to have you! This year we are introducing a "Buy Local Food Challenge". Our theme is - I Like My Food Naked, Near & Natural! Purchasing a booth at this event is a great way to promote your business as 2,000 to 4,000 Windsor Essex residents attend each year!

Rescheduled Black Oak Park Cleanup

Now on Saturday, April 21st at 9am, come out and help clean up our environment with the City of Windsor, Detroit River Canadian Cleanup, Port Authority and ERCA. We will be cleaning up Black Oak Heritage Park which is an ecologically sensitive area.

This event will happen on Saturday April 21st from 9am until 1pm (weather permitting) and will include a light lunch. Please see pdf for more information.
