City of Windsor needs your input!

The City of Windsor is seeking public input on our draft Climate Change Adaptation Plan. Adaptation to climate change includes any activity that reduces the negative impact of climate change while taking advantage of new opportunities that may be presented.

How do you think Windsor should adapt to the effects of a changing climate? Please read the plan at www.windsorenvironmentalmasterplan.ca and submit your comments to emp@city.windsor.on.ca by Monday, August 20th.

Windsor Community Composting Program Workshop!

Save the Earth, one house at a time. Become an ambassador! Windsor Community Composting is looking for members interested in collecting compost from their neighbourhood and delivering it to local community gardens so that it can be made into soil. These community gardens donate much of their produce to food banks.

The workshop is on Wednesday, August 1st from 12:00 to 3:00pm at Concorde Place (7515 Forest Glade Dr). For more information or to RSVP, please email WindsorCommunityComposting@gmail.com

Urban Ecology Workshops at CIVIC SPACE

Broken City Lab is really excited to announce their first Artist-in-Residence at CIVIC SPACE, Samantha LeFort with the Urban Ecology Project! Evolved from a love of design, urban environments, and creative projects - The Urban Ecology Project is the interjection of ecology and new life into an urban space. It kicks off on Tuesday, July 24 for a week of workshops.

Congrats to the 2012 Pat on the Back Award Winners!

WECEC is very pleased to announce the four award winners of the second annual Pat on the Back Awards: Amherstburg Public School, who will be constructing a natural ecosystem watershed in partnership with the Detroit River Canadian Cleanup; Princess Elizabeth Public School, who would like to purchase two large rotating composters for their composting program; Green Machine, an independently run neighbourhood composting ambassador program wishing to raise awareness and put on an event; and St. Joseph Elementary School, who would like to continue their naturalization project by planting a native plant garden.

The Committee also enjoyed presentations from Walkerville Collegiate Institute and their Kentucky coffee tree planting project, Al-Hijra Academy and their plans to expand their recycling program; as well as St. Maria Goretti Elementary School as they plan for their outdoor classroom with native plants and trees.

Interested in local environmental projects and how you can get involved? Come to the Pat on the Back award ceremony where 7 applicant organizations will present their projects in the hopes of receiving one of 4 $500 prizes from WECEC!

The event is on Wednesday, July 4th at 7:00pm at the Ojibway Nature Centre. All members of the public are welcome! The event is free and light appetizers will be provided.
