Liquid Assets - The Story of Our Water Infrastructure

Join us for a FREE movie night presented by the Detroit River Canadian Cleanup! Wednesday, November 7th at Silver City (4611 Walker Rd). Doors open at 7:00pm, film begins at 7:30pm. Call 3-1-1 in Windsor and 519-255-2489 in Essex to register before November 5th.

Liquid Assets tells the story of essential infrastructure systems: drinking water, wastewater and stormwater. These complex and aging systems are critical for basic sanitation, public safety, economic development and a host of other necessities of life. The documentary highlights hidden water infrastructure assets, watershed protection approaches, and twenty-first century solutions.

Local experts will be available after the film to answer questions about your "liquid assets".

Standing Committee passes Climate Adaptation Plan

The Environment, Transportation and Public Safety Standing Committee of Windsor City Council has passed the City of Windsor Climate Change Adaptation Plan, the second of its kind to be adopted in Canada!

Check out how the city will implement adaptation measures to combat issues such as extreme heat and increased rainfall. The Plan and its associated appendices are available here:

Green Speaker Series to Discuss Blue Green Algae!

Please join the Windsor Essex County Environment Committee in welcoming Chitra Gowda, Water Quality Specialist with the Essex Region Conservation Authority, and Jim McKenzie, Principal with the Federal Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development as our Green Speakers! Come out to this FREE event to learn more about the local and Federal responsibilities and initiatives to combat blue green algae.

This event is on Sunday, October 21st at the Kingsville Arena (1741 Jasperson Lane). The speakers begin at 1:00pm.

Along with the video, the Essex Region Conservation Authority has launched two frequently asked question sheets about phosphorus and blue green algae. These are available in the "resources" section of our website.

WECEC to release blue green algae educational video!

Join the Windsor Essex County Environment Committee as we unveil our public education and informational video:
“Overload - Lake Erie Blue Green Algae: Problems & Solutions”

The video highlights concerns from local residents and offers practical tips and actions residents can do to help out.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority will be releasing their Blue Green Algae and Phosphorus Fact Sheets, providing answers to frequently asked questions.
